2nd FFBL Seminar on Health, Safety and Environment
 

FFBL is at the forefront of the industries, who are aware of need to manage Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and is cognizant of the fact that HSE plays the vital role to achieve continued and sustained growth.

 

The safety of employees, maintenance of pollution free environment in and around plants and to contribute in country's economy by excelling in all local and international standards of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment are the cornerstones of FFBL's operating strategy. It has maintained a proud record of human safety, health and environmental standards.

 

FFBL had arranged their first national HSE seminar last year and to maintain its vigor for Health, Safety & Environment and to improve awareness at National Level, second one day seminar on HSE was organized by FFBL on September 29, 2011 at Karachi Marriott.

 

FFBL's General Manager Plants Mr. Farhan ul Karim, highlighted the importance of healthy work force, safe work place and pollution free environment in his welcome address The seminar focused on current HSE issues faced by the organization and corresponding measures to reinforce standard HSE practices- a must for productive outputs.

 

The seminar was classic example of much needed liaison between the professionals from industries and academia. Twelve papers, pertaining to industrial safety, ergonomics, environment and health issues associated with modern day living were presented in the seminar. Speakers included the notable faculty members from universities, professionals from industries and health sectors.

 

Participating delegates included from Fertilizer, Refineries, Oil & Gas sectors, Automobile industry, Hospitals, Free Lance Consultants, Pharmaceuticals, Textile, Institute of Engineers-Pakistan, Educational Institutes of the country & Govt organizations like EPA Sindh, SUPARCO, Port Qasim Authority, PCSIR and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

 

Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Karachi University, Mr. Qadeer Ahmed Khan, Director Operations Pak-Arab Fertilizer and Mr. Qamar Haris Manzoor, GM, Manufacturing Lotte - Pakistan PTA were among the notable dignitaries who also chaired respective sessions in the seminar.

 

FFBL's Chief Financial Officer Syed Aamir Ahsan said in his address that the key to sustained growth, enhanced productivity and high morale of the employees is the safe workplace. While comparing the HSE cultures of developed and developing countries, he cited the performance of DuPont plants, worldwide. He urged the participants to emulate the performance of top-notch companies in the world.

 

Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab, President, Muhammad Ali Jinnah University closed the seminar. In his concluding remarks he appreciated the efforts of FFBL to provide a platform to draw attention to the need for improvement of HSE culture in Pakistan. He further added that the seminar will serve as a launching pad for industry-wide information sharing and fostering/ furthering the liaison.

 

Mementos were presented to the Chief Guest, Session Chairs & Speakers as acknowledgement of their contribution to the seminar.

 

The seminar was widely appreciated by the participating delegates who stressed to increase the frequency of such events in the country.
